Karen Robards - I'm really glad to be in this chatroom! It's a new medium for me, and it's exciting to have the opportunity to talk with fans this way.

CassandraD - You are very much welcome!
Karen Robards - Actually, I become the characters and I experience what they're going through. It's not so much that they talk to me, but I talk through them. It's an interesting thing. I'm in their situation trying to work it out in a way their character and time would allow them to.

Sara-moderator - Karen, did you get Patti's question. Can you tell us about your new book, PARADISE COUNTY?
Karen Robards - yes, please, Patti
PattiL - Karen I really love your books, I haven’t had a chance to buy Paradise County yet, can you tell us a little about it?
Karen Robards - I *love* Paradise County. It's set in Simpsonville, KY, which is nicknamed Paradise county because it's so beautiful. It's the land of bluegrass horse farms, and the story is set on a horse farm
SpeedTypist - how is this place connected to yahoo?
Karen Robards - What happens is, the billionaire owner of the horse farm dies, and his daughter inherits everything. But he's going bankrupt when he dies. So she has to fire to the farm manager, Joe Welch. He is our hero. Sexy, handsome, his good family virtures are only matched by his good pecs.
Sara-moderator - and apparently has a hero that rates two
Karen Robards - But since he's worked on the farm a long time and has 3 children to support and a contract, he refuses to be fired. So she's stuck with him.
Sherryl - yeah baby.....

PattiL - Family virtures AND good pecs, the perfect man!

Karen Robards - They have lots of fiery encounters. Her teenage sister and Joe's teenage son have fiery encounters. Everybody falls in love and killer gets it in the end!

Karen Robards - one particular book, NIGHT MAGIC. I was in Central Park in the afternoon, with my sister, who was in a country phase. And her hair was teased up really high. My hair was just straight, hanging there. She said to me, "your hair needs more puff." I said to her "Your hair has enough puff for both of us." That got her mad, which I liked. So I started singing "Puff the Magic Dragon."
CassandraD - I love that book. Its hilarious
Karen Robards - That really made her mad. So I told her I was going to dedicate my next book to the "real Puff." So I got to thinking, what IF....

ukfan - Karen, you wrote a book a while ago that is set in Lexington, Ky and i have to tell you how much i loved it and how creepy it was..i'm from Lexington, and the Dairy Queen you wrote about it one i visited numerous times...Do you usually use settings you live in or do you research them?
CassandraD - Running through the forrest carrying a big fat cat. Its genius.

Karen Robards - What if I dedicated this book to "the real Puff" and there was a secret service agent out there whose code name was Puff the Magic Dragon and he was missing.
Karen Robards - and everybody - all the bad guys, KGB, was looking for him. And they saw my dedication and thought I knew where he was...
Karen Robards - And they came after ME!

Karen Robards - Well, it depends, ukfan. I went to college at UK in Lexington, so I'm very familiar with the area. A lot of the settings I use, I research. Some I've lived in.

Karen Robards - and thinking "when you're having your worst day ever, what else can go wrong...?"

Sherryl - and I looked at the flap and it had alot of stuff I didnt' like...he was coming out of prison where he had been 10 years

Sherryl - and he was older than Rachel...and I didn't want to go there.....but....I kept saying...but it is Karen Robards...so I bought the book and it has been on my keeper shelf ever since....
Karen Robards - Thank you, Sherryl. I love ONE SUMMER. I think it was my first hardcover contemporary romantic suspense.
Sherryl - So, you took me where I didn't want to go....but I had a hell of a good time getting there and so...Thanks...
CassandraD - Nothing wrong with a lil age...gives a lil spice and something different to the story line.

CassandraD - Most of the time you read about 17 year olds with 50 year old men...time for women to get an edge. hehehehe
