Cissy - Victoria, while people are thinking of questions and getting in line, could you introduce yourself to the group and tell us all a little about THE MARRIAGE LESSON?
Murialisa - ?
val - ?
val - damn you beat me Muri!! lol
Patti Berg - logged on - 5/2 at 9:05pm EST
val - Hi Patti
Cel - Hi Patti
Victoria - Well, hmm, I live in Omaha with 2 teenagers, a very nice husband and a goofy bearded collie. I used to be a tv reporter and now I write full time.
PattiL - Hi Patti
Murialisa - hi patti

Cissy - Hi Patti! Tonight we're chatting with Victoria Alexander about her newest release, THE MARRIAGE LESSON. We'll be operating on protocol, so if you have a question for Victoria, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Ginger - Hi Patti
Murialisa - wb flash
Victoria - Marriage Lesson picks up two of the characters from The Husband List and tells their story.
vaddra - see ya later everybody
Patti Berg - Hi, everyone! A big hello to Victoria!
Victoria - Hi Patti.
Flash - see ya Vaddra!
val - cya Vad
Victoria - Bye! Sorry you have to take off.
vaddra - have to chase my daughter back to bed<sigh>
Cissy - oops, I read that as YOU had to take off, Victoria! I thought "what'll we do for the next 45 mins?"
Flash - - 5/2 at 9:08pm EST
Cissy - Muri has the first question (Val in line)
Ginger - LOL Ccissy
Victoria - LOL I'm not going anywhere.
SEAL - - 5/2 at 9:09pm EST
vaddra - - 5/2 at 9:09pm EST
Murialisa - victoria, are you planning on writing Becky's story? and how many more effington stories do you plan on writing?
val - I'm gonna kill Time Warner - it was a bad picture to start with, now it's snow - there goes Voyager *really sulking now*!
Camby - - 5/2 at 9:10pm EST
jeff - hi, camby.....
val - woah hiya Cam
Cissy - Hi Camby Tonight we're chatting with Victoria Alexander about her newest release, THE MARRIAGE LESSON. We'll be operating on protocol, so if you have a question for Victoria, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Ginger - HI Cammm
Ginger - Geez this new keyboard is touchy
Victoria - Muri--I'll do Becky's story eventually but in The Prince's Bride she's only 17 and I want her to be a bit older.
Camby - Hi all
Murialisa - hi camby
val - and we're also not packing! lol
Victoria - However, I'm pretty shure her hero is in The Marriage Lesson.
Patti Berg - ?
Camby - - 5/2 at 9:12pm EST
Victoria - As for Effingtons--I love 'em.
Cissy - Val has the first question (Patti in line)
Murialisa - i love them too victoria
Ginger - WE do to Victoria
Victoria - It's a huge family. <G> With lots of friends.
Victoria - It's a huge family. <G> With lots of friends.
val - Victoria, you mentioned covers before - who decides the style, the bookseller I got my book from mentioned that cos they were so similiar people thought they already had the book unless they knew and were looking for it?
val - btw the book didn't actually get to the rack! lol
Victoria - Avon has an art department that comes up with the designs for the covers. I didn't see a problem with Wedding Bargain & Husband List but I agree that with Marriage Lesson they all look a bit too much alike.
Victoria - OTOH--I think they're all beautiful!!!
Patti Berg - I think your covers are absolutely beautiful, too, Victoria! My question, however
Victoria - The Prince's Bride cover should be quite a but different.
Patti Berg - is which characters from The Husband List are in The Marriage Lesson, and will we see characters from that book in the next one, The Prince's Bride, which is a wonderful title!!!
val - They are good, and the writing's clear (particularly on the spine) which I prefer immensely. I think some authors must lose sales because the writing on the spine is so ornate you can't read it!
Victoria - a bit different
val - ?
Ginger - I think your probably right about that Val
Patti Berg - Oops, did I goof up the protocol, since I already asked my question?
elizajane - hi ya'll
Cissy - Hi elizajane! Tonight we're chatting with Victoria Alexander about her newest release, THE MARRIAGE LESSON. We'll be operating on protocol, so if you have a question for Victoria, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Ginger - LOL Patti Don't worry I don't think Cissy will throw YOU out like she would one of us
Cissy - nope, Patti - you were next in line anyway
val - I get a headache sometimes Ginger - especially if they're low down on the shelf so you're practically reading it upside down
Cissy - lol, Ginger! Pure slander
Victoria - Good question patti! <G> Marriage Lesson is about Richard's sister Marianne and Gillian's brother Thomas. Richard's sisters Becky & Jocelyn are also in here plus Aunt Louella and the dowager duchess and a cast of thousands. Plus new folks. <G>ll T
Ginger - *whispering* just kidding Cissy wouldn't throw us out either
Camby - Hi elizajane!
val - Sorry Patti, just making a further comment.
Patti Berg - Well, I for one LOVE your casts of thousands!
Victoria - Hi Elizajane
val - hi elizajane
Victoria - We'll smack you, Patti, if you don't behave. <G>
Cissy - just for the record, it was VICTORIA who threatened violence, Patti, not me
Patti Berg - You know me, Victoria. Always a troublemaker!
Patti Berg - ?
Victoria - (Patti is one of my favorite contemporary authors!!!)
Ginger - ?
Cissy - Val has the next question (Patti, Ginger in line)
val - Age old question (which I almost forgot *doh*) is how do you do your research, and have you visited the UK?
PattiL - ?
Victoria - Books mostly--I just ordered a bunch on hot air balloons. Videos help too. Yep--I spent a week there about 15 years ago. We had planned to visit this spring but couldn't pull it off. I'm hoping for next year.
Patti Berg - Val, Victoria also wakes up friends at 3 a.m. and asks questions! I know this for a fact!
Ginger - Val will put you up if you need a place to stay Victoria
val - Lovely place, when it's not under 3 feet of rainwater!!
Victoria - <gasp> I have no memory of such a thing. <G>
Ginger - LOL Patti you are sounding a little bitter there
val - Nah I do that to my dad - except he's already awake, as I did today cos I couldn't get a good picture for Voyager (still sulking)
Patti Berg - Not bitter--just a good friend!
Cissy - lol, Patti
Cissy - Patti Berg has the next question (Ginger, PattiL in line)
Patti Berg - Do I ask my question now?
Victoria - Val--where exactly do you live?
elizajane has timed out.
Ginger - Patti the real thing we want to know was...Did you know the answer to her question?
Victoria - Val--where exactly do you live?
Patti Berg - Victoria - I fell in love with your paranormals way back when!! I love your Regencies, too. Do you plan to write any more time travels?
Victoria - I want to but I doubt it. Nobody seems to really want to buy them at the moment.e s
val - Normally in South London, currently I'm staying at my dad's house outside Orlando on holiday. Hence why I can make the chat as against to being unconcious!! lol
Victoria - Publishers I mean. Besides the conflict, the big question is really always the same--do I stay here or go home???
Ginger - Victoria we want to buy them!
Murialisa - victoria, i want the sister's story from your first book! i loved that book!
Victoria - Muri--I have books plotted for both the hero and heroine's sisters stories and I doubt I'll ever get to write them. <snif>
Cissy -
Murialisa -
Patti Berg - Well, we can always hope you get to write more. They're yummy!
Victoria - Maybe someday.
val - arrrggghhh there's more books. My peeve with Avon is they don't put an author backlist at the front of the book (or at least a v limited one)
Ginger - Victoria I love all your books that i have read so far , Princess and the Pea seems to be my favorite reread. How many books do you write a year and (can you ...aw heck , and Patti too....write faster please?)
Cissy - Ginger has the next question (PattiL in line)
Murialisa - so victoria, is there someone we can send petitions to to get time travel books from you?
Victoria - I do 2 to 3 a year. And I'm working on Patti. As for backlists, I think Avon does but only with Avon books. All of my Avons are listed in Marriage Lesson but none of the books I wrote for Leisure are listed.
Victoria - Which makes sense from a business sense I suppose.
Patti Berg - You can always check out Victoria's website at www.victoriaalexander.com for more information on her backlist! (Most of mine are Avon's--all but 1, and they're listed in the front of the cover.)
Ginger - Do you have a complete back list on your web page Victoria?
Ginger - Thanks PattiB for answering my question
val - Understandable, I didn't realise the others were Leisure.
Victoria - I do. And the website is http://www.victoria-alexander.com. If you forget the dash you get the Victoria Alexander who is a sculptor. Which is better than the VA who is a stripper. Or the one who investigates alien abductions. <G>
val - LOL Patti, do you want to check that web address!!!
Cissy - PattiL has the next question
Ginger - LMAO Have you gone to the others Victoria? Or just been told that?
PattiL - Victoria, do you have a favorite scene from The Marriage Lesson that you can tell us about?
Camby - Well geez Victoria. Couldn't all those professions fit into a romance?
val - You should check out Patti's version - that is one weird painting!
Victoria - I accidently found all the others except for the stripper. She wrote a book and her interview and mine on Amazon were confused. If you clicked on my books you got hers. Amazon couldn't seem to fix it so finally I did an interview saying I'd never been a stripper. Never had the body for it. <G> Patti's doing a showgirl.
PattiL - Well that might have helped you broaden your male audience Victoria
Victoria - Patti--I have a couple. One is when the imaginary guy Marianne has been writing about actually shows up in person. And the other is the fake duel scene. duel scene
Murialisa - gee, i haven't gotten to those yet.... if only i didn't have to study for that exam tonight... lol
Cissy - lol, Patti
Victoria - PattiL--yeah but I'm not sure if taking my clothes off or putting them on would work better. <G>
Patti Berg - Oooh, I LOVE duel scenes! Can't wait!
Ginger - Victoria I wish you and Patti were going to CR so I could get you to sign your latest books and gush over you in person
val - ?
Cissy - well we have time for a couple more questions if anyone has one, or we can just grill Victoria about what she has coming up next... (beyond PRINCE'S BRIDE)
Patti Berg - I went last year, Ginger. Wish I was going again--but have fun!
Cissy - Val has the next question
val - Same here (still haven't packed) particularly as I've done quite well on the VA front, the new book, The Perfect Wife and Believe
Victoria - Ginger--I wish we could too!!! Hopefully next year. It just depends where they have it. I really want to go.
Ginger - Thanks Patti we will
val - Weird question to a certain extent, but it's what interested you in writing about historical England.
Victoria - When I started reading romance, I first discovered time travel romances. I've always been a big scien
val - I've gotta get the no of the hotel, I have visions of driving round Atlanta looking for this hotel (I've got directions but one wrong turn and all those Peachtrees!)
Victoria - science fiction fan and I loved time travel. Then I discovered the regency and absolutely fell in love.
TLynn - logged on. - 5/2 at 9:50pm EST
Cissy - I haven't started packing yet either!
Camby - Ooohhh.... Atlanta is not the easiest city to get around eithe
val - cool another science fiction fan!!
Cissy - Hi TLynn We're just finishing up our chat with Victoria Alexander about her newest release, THE MARRIAGE LESSON. We'll be operating on protocol, so if you have a question for Victoria, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Camby - umm.... either, val (to complete my earlier sentence!)
Murialisa - cissy, i'm not even home yet!
Patti Berg - ?
Ginger - I am half packed and it looks like I will make it with just a carry on bag
Cissy - That's what I'm going for, Ginger.
Camby - Hi TLynn!
Victoria - I love everything about it. It's got great heros and interesting societal rules and wonderful clothes. <G>
Cissy - Patti Berg has the next question
Murialisa - how ginger????
Patti Berg - Victoria, you do such a wonderful job writing Regency. Will your future books stay in that time period, or do you think Avon will let you try others?
Ginger - LMAO Muri I am not taking books I just plann to buy a few there to get autographed....ok I am taking a book to read on the plane but that is it
TLynn - Hi,
val - yeah and my sense of direction in the states totally sucks! One time I was here EVERY time I went somewhere I got lost. I even had to purposing get lost again to rediscover a gas station as I thought I'd left my wallet there (which I hadn't it had slipped between the seats).
val - Hi TLynn
Murialisa - i went home yesterday to get organized and i have a whole suitcase full of books
Cissy - and I have kind of a followup question to Patti's...
Victoria - Patti-I'm probably in the Regency for the time being. I'd like to try a bit later--1880's or 90's. And I'd like to try to write another contemporary.
val - I also want to make a list of books I've already bought so I don't duplicate them.
Camby - LOL val. You should see me trying to get around Glasgow or Edinburgh.
Cissy - what other time periods would you LIKE to write in?
Victoria - Hi TLynn
val - Paradise Bay was very good.
Cissy - oops, you answered mine before you saw it. You're good
Patti Berg - Great! There's always room for another wonderful contemporary author! But I'd love to read a western by you. You've done one before, right?
Ginger - Can you write for a differnnt publisher under a pen name so you can try another era?
Victoria - Val--thank you!!! You're one of the few people in the world who bought it!!!
val - I've never tried Edinburgh except on foot. We caught a taxi into the centre. Glasgow - urgh and the M8 is a total mare.
Ginger - I beg to differ Victoria I bought it also
Ginger -
Murialisa - what did you buy val?
Victoria - Ginger--probably but I really love writing for Avon. My editor is wonderful and I'm sure I can play around a bit more in the future.
Cissy - see what good taste these WS chatters have?
Victoria - Two!!! Two!!! Yay!!! <G>
val - Well look under UK sales - and you'll see the 1!! Don't know why I thought it was a good idea. Perhaps people were milleniumed out.
TLynn - I love to escape present day sometimes and Regency Eng is my favorite place to go!
Ginger - That is good that you like your editor
Cissy - well you should love THE MARRAIAGE BARGAIN then, TLynn
val - If either of you get a chance to go to the UK, you should visit a store there called Murder One they specialise in importing US fiction and have a romance depart.
Cissy - if I could spell "marriage" correctly
Victoria - I will do another contemp at some point. I just don't have any spare time right now. Which actually is a very good thing. <G>
Victoria - I've heard of Murder One.
val - Along with the Husband List and the Wedding Bargain.
Cissy - well, Victoria, that hour passed quickly! Thanks so much for chatting with us tonight. We're not kicking you out, but we do like to offer our authors a graceful exit after an hour in the hot seat
Murialisa - well cissy, sara had it listed as the marriage bargain on the chat index i was starting to wonder why victoria was going to chat about a book that came out a year ago
Ginger - Cissy you have been near me to long you are starting to speel like me
Murialisa - thanks for coming to chat with us Victotia! come back and visit
Patti Berg - Bye, everybody! This was my firist visit. I'll come back again. Have fun at CR all of you that are going. And enjoy THE MARRIAGE LESSON!
Cissy - LESSON, LESSON, LESSON!! I knew that
PattiL - Thanks for chatting Victoria
Victoria - LOL It's Wedding Bargain & Marriage Lesson.
Cissy - Okay, everyone say it with me: Victoria's new release is THE MARRIAGE LESSON
PattiL - BTW, I really enjoyed Born to Be Wild Patti!
Ginger - Victoria Now that we are done with the formal Chat ....Can I ask you a silly question?
TLynn - Thanks for coming Victoria!
Patti Berg - Thanks, tons, PattiL!!!
val - Murder One are excellent in respect of the stock they have, but they are kinda pricey. Borders own a chain in the UK called Books Etc and they also stock US romance (some stores more then others) and they are more reasonable, and more accessible
Patti Berg - I typed a goodbye but it didn't show up. I'll try again.
Cissy - Yes, Patti - now that the "official" portion of the chat is over, tell us what you're up to release-wise
Patti Berg - I had a fun time here. This was the first time. Glad you were nice to my friend Victoria!
Murialisa - yeah, now that we're done being official - patti, i read my first book by you a few weeks ago, and i LOVED it! so i'm definately going to look for more of yours
Ginger - I hear they are building Sonic Fast food places in Omaha now have you eaten there yet?
Victoria - Ginger--sure.
Camby - Well, at least it wasn't reversed to say Bargain Wedding or Bargain Marriage.
Cissy - Victoria, please come back and hang out with us any time. You too, Patti
Murialisa - cissy, i got very confused looking for it on the calander
Victoria - LOL--not here. But I did see one the other day.
PattiL - LOL Camby, from the sale rack?
val - lol Cam
Patti Berg - Well, Cissy, first off I'll be reading THE MARRIAGE LESSON!
Cissy - smart move, Patti
Patti Berg - Oh, oh, first I'd better finish the book I'm working on--a follow up to BORN TO BE WILD.
Victoria - I had a lovely time. It's always so angsty when you have a new book out. You all really made me feel much better.
Cissy - I've added it to my TBB list too
Ginger - That is my Favorite fast food palce and Chris bought me some stock in it for our Anniversary but we don't have them here but I will be going when we go to Omaha in june
Camby - A follow up? We love followup stories!
Patti Berg - Victoria - We love you. No need to angst. People are going to LOVE THE MARRIAGE LESSON!!!
Cissy - Victoria, I always like to read all the books in a series, so I'm sure I'll pick up your earlier books too, but do I need to read them in order?
Murialisa - i got it at the mall yesterday i'm definately going to be hunting up the others to reread when i get hone'
Ginger - hey we are always nice to authors here, we love that you are willing to chat with us
Victoria - Born to be Wild is wonderful!
vaddra - - 5/2 at 10:03pm EST
val - Victoria, do any more of your books overlap timewise. I loved in the Wedding Bargain where the revisited the scene in the lake.
Murialisa - and i can't spell.,.. that should be home
vaddra - hi all
jeff - oh no, Ginger ....where do they not have Sonic?
jeff - vad....you're back....
Ginger - I got Patti's newest this weekend, but I will get Victoria's next (i didn't know it was out)
Camby - Hi vaddra!
PattiL - Hi Vaddra
Victoria - Cissy. Not really. Wedding Bargain & Husband List actually take place at the same time.
Camby - I don't know that I've seen one here, jeff
Cissy - oh, that's so cool!
Ginger - None In Indiana jeff...well Not my part of Indiana
Victoria - Marriage Lesson refers to HL a bit but it's not necessary to read HL first.
Ginger - I loved that part also Val!
jeff - you're in DC, righ?
PattiL - I have never even heard of it Jeff
Camby - uh-huh

Go on to Part 2

Tell a friend!
