SLIGHTLY SHADY

From the moment he burst into her antiquities shop in Rome, Lavinia Lake knew the stranger was nothing but trouble. He said he was in pursuit of a killer. He swore he was only trying to save her. Yet no matter what he claimed, Lavinia was convinced that Me. Tobias March was bent instead on destroying her. And when the self-described spy hustled her and her niece out of the shop and back to England, Lavinia could only hope that one day she would would find a way to repay Mr. March in full.

But Lavinia never imagined the shocking circumstances under which they would meet again--or that soon he would become more deadly-and more compelling-with each passing day.

We'll be operating on protocol, so if you have a question for Jayne, type ? to get in line and I'll call on you in turn.
Cissy - A few rules to keep tonight's chat pleasant for everyone: (1) please limit your icon usage; (2) please limit your side-chatter so we can concentrate on the questions and answers; (3) do NOT send private messages to Jayne. She's going to have her hands full responding to us in the main room. (4) please be careful not to give away any spoilers from SLIGHTLY SHADY for those who haven't read it yet. Enjoy!
Jayne/Amanda - Helena: (good to see you, btw): The research for the Regencies is different from the research for the contemporaries, but not easier or harder -- just different. In the sequel to SLIGHTLY SHADY (which you'll see this time next year) I had some terrific professional help from a real curator of Roman-British antiquities at the British Museum. It was a fabulous experience.

Cissy - Welcome to everyone coming in! Tonight we're chatting with Amanda Quick (aka Jayne Ann Krentz) about her newest release SLIGHTLY SHADY--and whatever else we can get her to talk about. We'll be operating on protocol, so if you have a question for Jayne, type ? to get in line and I'll call on you in turn.
Janice - Hey everyone! Hi Jayne
Debbie - hi Andey and Cel
Jayne/Amanda - The books will all be stand-alones. You can read any of them alone but they will feature a continuing cast of characters.
vaddra - hi andey /wave hi cel/wave
Andey - hi room
ElizabethMowell - Now all we need is my DNA donor, A/E, and we'll have a complete coven.
Jayne/Amanda - Different stories will put different emphasis on different characters
Cissy - KatBos has next question (Barbh, honeybee, Robin, Sami, Boop, Anita, Shamrun, ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle in line)
KatBos - Stella, like YOU need tips!
sami - This is for Jayne Castle: do you plan anymore science fiction books of the series named for flowers?
StellaC - we all need tips...
RFD64 - ?
KatBos - Jayne, I have all of your Amanda Quick books on my keeper shelf. What I love most about your books are your quirky characters. Where do you get your ideas for them?
Cissy - Sami, hang on to your question and I'll call on your shortly
Morgan - you go ahead Stella, LOL I get MY tips from YOU on Thursdays!
sami - I didn't mean to do that. I was waiting my turn!
BarbH -
Janice - I see E. Lowell is there and Stella
ElizabethMowell - *tucks a quarter into Stella's pocket*
Janice - LOL
BarbH - dont worry that happened to me to
teresciaharvey - ?
ElizabethMowell - No, it's E. MMMowell (talpianna)
Jayne/Amanda - KatBos: I don't know where the ideas come from! I think everyone has something that comes naturally to them in the creative sense -- cooking, painting, teaching, whatever. For me the story thing is natural. What would feel really, really weird would be if I woke up one morning and it was gone!
Niteowl - ?
Anita - Your web site is the best!!! I really enjoyed the field reports from your book signings. I've ordered Slightly Shady. Can't wait to read it. Hope you do another Jayne Castle soon.
Andey - we all devoutly hope it never does!
Cissy - Barbh, has next question ( honeybee, Robin, Sami, Boop, Anita, Shamrun, ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64 in line)
KatBos - Jayne, just keep doing what you are doing!!!
shamrun - you have international fame, will it become easier to receive your books in other languages , i always seem to have a hard time
Cissy - bite your tongue, Jayne!
honeybee - Do you use any real characteristics or personalities from people you kno By the way Thank You for all the enjoyable hours of reading!!!
Nanette -
Janice - Sorry, E Mowell
Jayne/Amanda - Barbh
honeybee - sorry, I didn't mean to!!
honeybee - sorry, I didn't mean to!!
Cissy - Helpful hint: if you want to type your question ahead of time, don't type it into the text entry box. It WILL get sent early
BarbH - ok, Hi Jayne!! Is there any word on a sequel for After Dark yet? I know youve been asked this alot, but I love those characters
shamrun - logged on - 4/6 at 9:19pm EST
Cissy - Barb, your question?
BarbH - HI Frank!!
shamrun - sorry
Cissy - oops there it is
Jayne/Amanda - BarbH: Frank says hi back.
BarbH - I found that out too
Cel -
Jayne/Amanda - BarbH: I really hope to do a sequel next year when I've finished with the Eclipse Bay series.
Cissy - honeybee has next question ( Robin, Sami, Boop, Anita, Shamrun, ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64 Teresciaharvey, Niteowl in line)
honeybee - I love your heroines and heros, they are always slightly quirky. Is it easier for you to write aboute quirky heros and heroines, instead ofDo you use real characteristics or personalities for your stories? Or even a funny situation? By the way Thank You for all the enjoyable hours of reading!!!
syn - ?
Cel - I just saw the cover to DAWN IN ECLIPSE BAY and it's gorgeous.
StellaC - ?
Debbie - Where did you see that CEL?
honeybee - sorry about the mix up, do you use real characteristics?
StellaC - Do you have any secondary characters
tander2950 - - 4/6 at 9:22pm EST
deli has timed out.
Cel - On Amazon Debbie, but it's up on the Writerspace calendar now
gerri has timed out.
Jayne/Amanda - honeybee: I never think of my characters as quirky -- I think of them as having a passion -- whether it be for success or cooking or archaeology or painting. It is the passion that makes characters interesting to me. And in this sense, I'm not talking about romantic passion. A personal agenda, if you will. I think that translates into what everyone calls quirky.
Hania - logged on - 4/6 at 9:23pm EST
Robin - Jayne, I have just 80 pages left to read of SS. Really loving it!! My question is a bit off topic however. I know you haven't had any major book signing tours since the last one, so Frank hasn't had a chance to work on his mini-bar diet book. However, has he been planning through his next efforts (like the good engineer he is)?
Cissy - This is an announcement for those watching from the auditorium. If you're in the auditorium and want your name considered for the door prizes/book giveaways tonight, please send an email to cissy@writerspace.com - those in the main chatroom do not need to do this
Cissy - Robin, has next question ( Sami, Boop, Anita, Shamrun, ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64 Teresciaharvey, Niteowl, Nanette, Cel, Syn, StellaC in line)
Cissy - lol, Robin
syn has timed out.

Jayne/Amanda - Robin: Sorry, almost missed your question. No news on Frank's writing career.
Jayne/Amanda - It all fell apart once the inspiration of the hotel mini-bars faded.
Robin - *sigh* And it showed such great promise too
Cissy - Sami has next question ( Boop, Anita, Shamrun, ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64 Teresciaharvey, Niteowl, Nanette, Cel, Syn, StellaC, honeybe in line)

sami - Do you plan any more SF in the "flower-named" books, and if so, when?
Suze has timed out.
Hania - Hallo! I just wanto to say that it is always pleasure to read books of Yours, Jayne. I`m from Poland and i haven`t seen Slighty Shady here and look forward
Debbie - Hi Camby
Jayne/Amanda - Sami: No more Flower books planned. But I hope to continue the After Dark series soon.
Camby - Hi all
sami - - 4/6 at 9:28pm EST
vaddra - hi camby /wave
Cissy - Boop has next question ( Anita, Shamrun, ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64 Teresciaharvey, Niteowl, Nanette, Cel, Syn, StellaC, honeybee, katd1d, Robin in line)
Nanette - hi camby
Carole - Hi, Camby
Boop - What did you mean by Slightly Shady having a chill factor?g
MaryE has timed out.
williska - ?
honeybee - hi
Nanette - that was my ?
Camby - - 4/6 at 9:29pm EST
Cissy - we're going to close the queue in just a couple of minutes, so if you have a question for Jayne and aren't already in line, last call!
Debbie - good question boop.
Jayne/Amanda - Boop: Chill factor means something that I think adds a scary touch. Strange waxworks in Slightly Shady, for example. And the heroine's skill with mesmerism.
honeybee - cool
Andey - ?
Robin - Cissy, please pull my name from the queue. I'd prefer if someone else had a chance to ask another question
Nanette - cool. i can already tell i'm going to like this series
Hania - Eclipse Bay in Poland has title Long walk i found it very nice, what do you tink?
Cissy - - 4/6 at 9:32pm EST
Cissy - - 4/6 at 9:32pm EST
Morgan - Ok, is everyone quiet, or is there something wrong with my stupid server
Cissy - Anita has next question (Shamrun, ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64 Teresciaharvey, Niteowl, Nanette, Cel, Syn, StellaC, honeybee, Katd1k, Robin, williska in line)
Jayne/Amanda - cissy?
Anita - Jayne, before your sold your first book, and were working and writing full-time, how did manage to keep your confidence in your writing?
Cissy - sorry! I was having technical difficulties
Cissy - if anyone has trouble posting, make sure the "Send to" box says "Send to: Room" and not "Send to: "
DawnT - Good question, Anita
Nanette - that's what the problem was...that i was loosing it
Debbie - Mine too Nanette
Jayne/Amanda - Anita: The only person who will ever have complete confidence in your writing, is you, the author. And I don't think you can call it confidence. It's more a matter of not being able to stop writing. So you just keep going because you have no choice.
Boop - Mine too - they must have all changed.
Cissy - Shamrun has next question (ElizabethMowell, Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64 Teresciaharvey, Niteowl, Nanette, Cel, Syn, StellaC, honeybee, Katd1k, Robin, williska, Andey in line) queue closed
Morgan - Great response on that Jayne!
shamrun - you are internationally renowned, do you ever give book tours there, i find it difficult (sometimes) to find you books in my language
Hania - - 4/6 at 9:37pm EST
has timed out.
Jayne/Amanda - shamrun: The only tours I've done so far are here in the U.S. I know finding translations is difficult. I'm really sorry about that. But hopefully things are changing.
Hania - logged on - 4/6 at 9:38pm EST
Cissy - ElizabethMowell has next question (Helena, bry'sapoodle, RFD64, Teresciaharvey, Niteowl, Nanette, Cel, Syn, StellaC, honeybee, Katd1k, Robin, williska, Andey in line) queue closed
syn - testing
syn - nevermind cissy its working now...thanks
Cissy - I think we're fixed now
Hania - - 4/6 at 9:39pm EST
ElizabethMowell - I could write 16 pages on why the Regency is the only historical period I like to read fiction about. What attracts you to it?
elizajane - logged on - 4/6 at 9:40pm EST
Jayne/Amanda - ElizabethMowell: I love the period because it feels like a mirror-image of our own in so many ways -- the attitudes toward the wonders of science, the optimism, etc. I also love it because they got to where really cool clothes and they made conversation an art form.
Cissy - just a remind to those watching from the auditorium. If you want your name to be considered for the door prize/book drawings, send an email to cissy@writerspace.com (not necessary for those in the main chatroom)
elizajane - hi
Cissy - those are great reasons, Jayne
elizajane - hi
Cissy - Helena has next question (bry'sapoodle, RFD64, Teresciaharvey, Niteowl, Nanette, Cel, Syn, StellaC, honeybee, Katd1k, Robin, williska, Andey in line) queue closed
Helena - I know we keep asking and you keep saying no but I did hear that you were thinking about rereleasing the McFaddens as e-books I just wanted to know is that true?
Debbie - Hi elizajane
Andey - id have loved to live back then, except for the lack of plumbing

elizajane - hi debbie
ElizabethMowell - I also like the way it's pulled 2 ways between romance and reason, science and religion, autocracy and democracy, license and prudery.
Carole - Jaaaayyyyynnnneee????
BarbH - (keeping fingers crossed)
StellaC - dinner calls (cooked by Jerry)--have fun, all--night, Jayne

Cissy - thanks for coming, Stella!
Mari - Night Stella
Nanette - nite stella
Jayne/Amanda - Helena: It is an option. But nothing is for sure. It will probably be a while. The bottom line, of course, is that I'm not real eager to have those books back in print. They were my first, after all. The ones I learned on. Writing genre fiction is a self-taught craft and those were the books I used to start my education.,
Karenfl - Hello everyone
