JeanieLondon - Susan, tell her about the GORGEOUS cover!
SusanKearney - It's called Battle of Betazed and the heroine is Deanna Troi who has to save her planet from the Dominion.
purplefrog - hi cel
Sabrina Moses - You bet ya, Cyn!
Cel - ooops...need to change *clothes*
gerri - Hi cel
mary f - Love those Kind Joanne! thanks ladies
SusanKearney - The cover is a Deanna with a big honking gun!!
Lee-Moderator - Hi Cel! Welcome to the monthly Harlequin Blaze chat! Tonight we're chatting with romance authors Susan Kearney, Jeanie London and Joanne Rock about their new releases. Kindly note protocol is in effect so if you have a question for the authors, please type a to join the queue and I'll call on you in turn. Thanks and Enjoy!!
Oliveria - Wow I like Deanna that sounds good
SusanKearney - We were asked to create the story around the cover.
Sabrina Moses - Troi's a cool character to work with, Susan. Congats on the Trek novel
Cynomin - do I have your addy, or do you have a website....
SusanKearney - Thanks. I;m at SusanKearney.com
JoanneRock - Susan I love it! Some pictures definitely deserve a story
Cynomin - Susan honkin gun...
Lee-Moderator - Sabrina has the next question. (PurpleFrog, Mema in line)
Oliveria - ?
SusanKearney - Joanne, I love the cover of your Blaze. It so fits the title.
Cynomin - ?
Sabrina Moses - You ladies said earlier that your characters are in the 20something age range. May I ask what is your 'age range'?
JoanneRock - Thank you! I was thrilled with the whole concept.
Sabrina Moses - Notice my polite way of asking
SusanKearney - 47
JoanneRock - , Sabrina
JoanneRock - I'm 32
JeanieLondon - I'm turning 40 this year! I love *zero* years!
mary f - Sabrina
Cynomin - tsk tsk Sabrina....
Sabrina Moses - Susan, you could have given a range
SusanKearney - But I'm young at heart,
Lee-Moderator - PurpleFrog has the next question. (Mema, Oliveria, Cynomin in line) The queue is now closed.
Cynomin - very tactful...lol
Ame -
mary f - Hello Ame
SusanKearney - And I'll never again be as young as I am today!
JoanneRock - Celebrate, Jeanie! And men get better with age... more thoughtful. Smarter
Lee-Moderator - Hi Ame!
Sabrina Moses - Nicely put, Susan
Cynomin - your right on the money there......none of us will be.....
JeanieLondon - How true, Susan!
JoanneRock - That's something nice to look forward to!
Cynomin - like a fine wine huh Joanne...lol
Ame - mary,I found out today, te student isn't leaving, m still stuc
JeanieLondon - Yippee, Joanne! Works for me
Ame - oh rats, dh is home BBL
JoanneRock - Cynomin, exactly!! Aged is good
mary f - ACK sorry to hear that Ame
Lee-Moderator - Hi Cait!
SusanKearney - Aged beats the alternative!
Lee-Moderator - PurpleFrog, did you ask your question?
gerri - Hi Cait
Ame - ya I cried
Cait - hi, people!
Sabrina Moses - ...speaking of fine wine
mary f - Hello Cait
Cynomin - hi Cait I think so too Joanne..my dh is 7 yrs older than me *wg*
Ame - I will be back laater, I need to talk tdh
purplefrog - Ladies do you find it harder to write the sex scenes or the rest of the book?
Lee-Moderator - Bye Ame!
Cynomin - c u Ame...come back
purplefrog - just did Lee
JeanieLondon -
Sabrina Moses - You go, Cyn!
mary f - bye Ame
SusanKearney - The entire book is hard, the beginning, the middle, the sex and the end.
Lee-Moderator - Thanks, Purple.
Cynomin - oh I do..hehe *blushing* NOT
JoanneRock - Interesting questions. Love scenes used to be the easiest part for me, but as I write more of them, it becomes harder to continue to be different from myself, to be different from other love scenes.
Sabrina Moses - I like older men, but married younger ...go figure
SusanKearney - Ah, Joanne--that's where age comes in handy!!
JeanieLondon - Depends on my mood, purplefrog. Some days I think I can't possibly squeeze out one more groan. Other days, they practically write themselves.
JoanneRock - I think i now write the love scenes more SLOWLY than any other portion of the story
Cynomin - rotfl Jeanie
Lee-Moderator - Mema has the next question. (Oliveria, Cynomin in line) The queue is now closed.
JoanneRock - Jeanie, you're a hoot!
JeanieLondon -
SusanKearney - Unlike Jeanie, my books NEVER write themselves.
mary f - LMAO
Sabrina Moses - Susan-A true author who uses blood, sweat, and tears
mema - Speaking of ages...why are so few books written about more mature people, men and women. I always feel that only the young are represented in romance books.
Sabrina Moses - And the occasional
JeanieLondon - Which might explain why I can never put down anything Susan writes.
SusanKearney - IEXACTLY!
Sabrina Moses - Good point, mema
Lee-Moderator - Hi Redellen!
SusanKearney - I guess I'll have to pay Jeanie more and give her a raise
JeanieLondon -
Cynomin - interesting........I would say that as we get older, we wouldn't enjoy these books as much...would we....ummmm food for thought Mema...
redellen - hi lee
JoanneRock - Mema... I don't know. But I do have a fun secondary plot line with older characters in my September Blaze Wild and Willing!
SusanKearney - Mema, Because falling in love the first time is supposed to be the most exciting.
Lee-Moderator - wb Kathy
KatB - Okay, who sicced the gremlins on me tonight? LOL
Oliveria - Is anybody coming to Rhode Island to do a booksing
Cynomin - omg..your a hoot Jeanie
mary f - WB Kat
SusanKearney - I'm currently writing an Intrigue where a divorced couple gets back together.
JoanneRock - Older characters can be very sexy..... these folks know what they want!
Cynomin - good point Susan
Sabrina Moses - Supposed to be, but some of us find it later on too
Cait - have to go. night
JeanieLondon - I've got two little old ladies in ONE-NIGHT MAN--got into both their points of view and had a great time.
Cynomin - really Susan........interesting........
mema - I agree somewhat...but turning 50 somehow became a turn on for both me and dh. He can't believe it only gets better.
JeanieLondon - Joanne! We're month mates again in September!
SusanKearney - In Enslaved I have a 90 year old women who loves to purchase the men. And she adores pinching the hero's butt.
Lee-Moderator - Oliveria has the next question. (Cynomin in line) The queue is now closed.
Oliveria - Is any authors coming to Rhode Island for booksing?
mary f - Susan That's great!
SusanKearney - Sorry, I'm not.
Sabrina Moses - @ Susan's 90 year old woman
JoanneRock - yea, Jeanie! Wish I was still in FL.... we could trek around and do signings and raid B&N candy counters!
Sabrina Moses - Go Granny Go!
JeanieLondon - Would definitely be fun, Joanne!
Lee-Moderator - Cynomin has the last question. The queue is now closed.
JoanneRock - I'm in upstate NY, Oliveria. Won't be signing beyond there.
JeanieLondon - Oliveria, I won't be in RI any time soon, I'm afraid. But I LOVE it up there!
Sabrina Moses - Jeanie and Joanne ...the Thelma and Louise of Romance Authors
Lee-Moderator - Cynomin has the last question. The queue is now closed.
Cynomin - do you each have your own site for readers to leave you feedback on a book??? How long have you all been writing...not published, just writing seriously? Oh, yeah and I wanted to know if you had met each other in person...3 questions for the price of one ... my apologies Lee
JeanieLondon - Yeah, Sabrina
Sabrina Moses - Taking the chocolate hostage and signing books along the way!
JoanneRock - I love it, Sabrina! The convertible is a must!
JoanneRock - We've all met!
Lee-Moderator - LOL Cyn!! no problem.
Cynomin - kewl.....
Cynomin - I guess since your all in the same room I'
Cynomin - I'll assume you got along?
Cynomin - I'll assume you got along?
Sabrina Moses - And a cover model in the back seat
JoanneRock - I've been writing for five years, and you can reach me via my website at www.joannerock.com. I'd love to hear feedback on my stories.

SusanKearney - Cy, Yes and no. I've sold 25 books and sometimes I feel old. Other times i feel like I'm jut learning what I'm doing.
Sabrina Moses - A shameless plug, Lee?
Cynomin - Also, you should come join us readers at Romance Cafe readers group....it's VONDERFUL....
JeanieLondon - The support makes this business tolerable sometimes, Mary--triumphs and tribulations
Lee-Moderator - Sabrina, VERY shameless.
SusanKearney - Where is the Romance Cafe?
Cynomin - I take it as my honorable duties to plug for Lee..lol
purplefrog - night ladies gotta run...thanks for the chat...will be on the lookout for your books
JoanneRock - I love writing!! Call it first year honeymoon, but I'm having a blast.

JoanneRock - Thank you, Lee!
Cynomin - ttyl Sabrina...you behave yerself ya hear
Lee-Moderator - http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RomanceCafe
SusanKearney - Thanks Lee. I can stick around a bit if anyone still has questions.
JeanieLondon - I giggle at the computer, Joanne
Sabrina Moses - See ya'll tomorrow night ...well, some of you
Sabrina Moses -
Cynomin - I'll see you Sabrina..hehe
Oliveria - yes what is the name of the star trek books
Lee-Moderator - Cyn, the transcripts should be ready soon - maybe a week or earlier.
JoanneRock - Night, all! I've got to tuck my boys in bed... they're running around the house shamelessly ignoring bedtime!! Bye
SusanKearney - The Battle of Betazed is the Star trek book. It's on my website at SusanKearney.com
JeanieLondon - G'night, Joanne! Nice chatting with you
Cynomin - thanks Lee...
SusanKearney - Bye Joanne!
mary f - goodnight joanne
Oliveria - bye Joanne
Lee-Moderator - no problem.

Cynomin - I signed up to the Blaze books to receive them monthly...but i didn't get Jan.... boo hoo..
Lee-Moderator - Night Joanne! Thank you for coming!!
mema - good night all
Cynomin - My hubby bought me "all tied up" guess what he was thinking...lol...*wg*
SusanKearney - Cy. Where did you sign up? I didn't know they had started the book club yet.
Lee-Moderator - Night Mema!
KatB - Cyn, I did too but haven't gotten an order yet.
JeanieLondon - I hope you suggested HE read it, Cyn?!
mary f - I'm still trying to figure out how you all put out great book after great book!
Cynomin - harlequin.com, they sent me 2 free books, but of course I already had them
Lee-Moderator - Well, I'm off too. Thank you all for coming tonight! It was a terrific chat! Night!
Cynomin - he does read em Jeanie...when we first met 17 years ago, that is what we did as a hobby...lol
Cynomin - night Lee {{{hugs}}}
JeanieLondon - Oooh, no wonder you married him
redellen - nite lee
SusanKearney - Cy, He sounds like a keeper.
Cynomin - I have a lovely picture of him sleeping with a romance open on his chest...lol
Cynomin - Ohhhhh he is definately a KEEPER....
JeanieLondon - Definitely!
KatB - Night Lee.
Cynomin - but I didn't know that when I married him, he was into National Geographic and History stuff...still is, but likes his "bedtime stories..lol"
mary f - He reads them Cy?
Oliveria - Are you married susan and do you have kids?
Cynomin - How many books have ya'all written each...
Cynomin - Yup Mary...he gets annoyed when I laugh and he knows he's missin out, so I won't tell him...he has to read it for himself...
SusanKearney - Yes, I've been married 21 years and have two kids. A daughter in college and a son in high school. That gives me lots of time to write.
JeanieLondon - I've got four SECRETS and three Blazes.
Cynomin - we have a running contest to see who can read the most in a year, although he reads more Fiction than I do...
mary f - Oh I'll have to make him read them then GREAT IDEA!
Cynomin - What is a SECRETS book Jeanie???
SusanKearney - I've sold 25 but wrote another 5 that I never sold. And two that sold never got published.
JeanieLondon - What a great contest! Sounds like fun. my hubby is a turbo reader. I'd never be able to keep up with him. Sigh.
Cynomin - Makes for good conversation Mary, and even better S-E-X (shhhhhhh) I didn't say that
Cynomin - how can a book be sold but not published?
mary f - I won't tell ;0
SusanKearney - Oh, yes, I've sold a Secrets story too under Ivy Landon.
Oliveria - cynomin
Cynomin - what does he like to read Jeanie........
JeanieLondon - SECRETS is an anthology collection of VERY sexy novellas that are still romances. Trade paperback and hardcover through the Doubleday Book CLub.
SusanKearney - Cy, The publisher buys the book, then cancells the line and the book never comes out. It's abummer.
Cynomin - lol O
JeanieLondon - Cy, he's a diehard fantasy reader.
Cynomin - I suppose you can't sell it again either, what a bummer that work...omg..I'd be MAD..
redellen - jeanie i have just one secret s books a million had to order it for me they are hard to fine here
SusanKearney - Secrets has one contemproary story, one historical, one paranormal and one really hot one. It's a great read. And there are 7 volumes.
Cynomin - Fantasy of what kind? I'm almost through Dark Legand by C. Feehan, I am normally not that type of book reader, but it is good...
mary f - Oh Susan that must be really frustrating!
Cynomin - How can I find out more about Secrets?
JeanieLondon - The readers have embraced the SECRETS. I get so much good feedback. Cy, try redsagepub, com
SusanKearney - Cy, You can go to the Secrets web site at writer space and order books there.
Cynomin - doubleday??? I just got my envie from them today...is there somewhere I can look them up?
Cynomin - ohhhhhhhh thanks Susan....(happy dance)
Oliveria - Are Sectets and Blaze all under HQ
SusanKearney - And it was my first two book sales that never got published. But they weren't very good.
Cynomin - what is your favorite author???
mary f - What happens to those stories that don't make print, that way?
JeanieLondon - Sure, Doubleday has TWO volumes together! Up until Volume 6. You can order them through the club website.
Cynomin - you did get fully paid though??? I hope..
SusanKearney - Blaze books are Harelequins. Secrets is another publisher called Red Sage. It's small but very good stuff.
Cynomin - kewl..have to check that too..
KatB - Cyn, go to the doubleday website. That's where I ordered mine.
JeanieLondon - VERY good stuff
Cynomin - Thanks KatB
Cynomin - I see that sly wink Jeanie...lol
SusanKearney - Mary, The author can resell the stories but in this market, they usually don't fit into what another publisher wants.
SusanKearney - Cy, I got paid an advance but that was it.
Oliveria - So you can write for more than one publisher?
Cynomin - oh mannnnnnnnn, want me to do some butt kicking??? I will ya know..purple can attest to that, but I see she's gone
JeanieLondon - Sure, Oliveria. Susan has so many I can't keep up with her
SusanKearney - Oliveria, Yes, but there are sometimes restrictions on the author.
mary f - Yikes that must be really frustrating, no wonder that support for each other is there! ( I love it)
Cynomin - Jeanie and Susan, are those your "real" birth names?
SusanKearney - yes
Cynomin - nice to see eh Mary...
JeanieLondon - Makes all the difference in the world, Mary.
SusanKearney - Author friendships are crucial in this business. Otherwise we are too alone out there.
mary f - Yes it is, that's why I keep coming back!
SusanKearney - And it's so cool that Jeanie's first book is out the same month as mine. We can do signings together.
mary f - FIRST Book that's fabulous!
Oliveria - yes come to Rhode Island
JeanieLondon - Don't let her fool you, I'm DRAGGIN her to one
SusanKearney - I have a question for you all. How many of you buy books after the chats? And if so, what makes you buy a new author?
JeanieLondon - Thanks, Mary! I even got a great vcover for my first Blaze. I'm pleased and relieved
mary f - I DO I DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oliveria - I like Historicals and time travel mostly
mary f - (If I like the story line they present!) (don't worry I'm easy to please!
KatB - Susan, I just buy books and books and books. Plus I get tons of books because I am a reviewer. I'm a hopeless bookaholic!
Cynomin - I buy a lot from these chats! What makes me do it...the fact they talk to me, like anyone else...there are always some people who just aren't real....welllllll I dunno...but you gals are real nice...
JeanieLondon - So you read the back cover blurbs to help you decide, Mary?
JeanieLondon - Thanks Cynomin! Ditto. I've run into some wonderful chatters here at WS.
Cynomin - I never read the back blurb...usually the first para...but if it's someone I've chatted with, I buy it no matter what.
SusanKearney - Thanks all. I'm always curious about what makes readers buy, especially since we have no control over the covers.
mary f - First it's author recognition, then back blurb and sometimes the cover decides
Cynomin - I think it's almost like your author family...a reader family..kinda
Cynomin - I think it's almost like your author family...a reader family..kinda
JeanieLondon - My sister NEVER reads the blurbs, either, Cyn. She doesn't want to take expectations into the story.
SusanKearney - CY, reading the first paragraph is smart. The author writes that but not the cover copy.
KatB - WOM works for me the best!
Cynomin - WOM?
KatB - Word of Mouth, Cyn.
mary f - Cy I'm the same way if they bother to chat with little old me.! I BUY THEM!
SusanKearney - KatB, And where do you hear WOM? On line?
SusanKearney - Mary F--You ARE easy.
KatB - Susan, online and I'm on tons of lists. Plus friends who read.
mary f - Does that make me a book hussy! (oh what I said!)
SusanKearney - When you find a new author you like, do you all read her back list, too?
Oliveria - Why can't a author choose what is on the cover?
JeanieLondon - I've discovered some of my fav authors from WOM, both online and in person. Some of the romance lists are great.
Cynomin - darn my puter is giving me fits...ughhhhhhh
redellen - la knight
Cynomin - Susan, I try to get their back lists, the problem sometimes is they change their pen names...ughhhhh i hate that...lol
Meme - This is Oliveria
Cynomin - Hi O\
Meme - I check out the author website
Meme - Why don't the author have a say on their covers?
Cynomin - Apparently that'
Cynomin - apparently that is the Marketing Departments Job.........
JeanieLondon - Hello all, Susan and I were kicked out! She wanted me to say goodbye to you all
