Cissy - Welcome everyone to our chat with Metsy Hingle. Metsy's chatting tonight about her latest Silhouette Desire, NAVY SEAL DAD. We're operating on protocol, so if you have questions for Metsy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Oliveria - David J Elliot is cute
purplefrog - hi Cynomin,
CCaro - I'm back! Hello everyone.
Cissy - That's exactly what I do, Metsy. I see the author I like, I buy the book. Cover doesn't matter!
gerri - you have a question Oliveria...
Linda Kay - Covers sometimes tempt me to buy writers I don't know. Usually, I buy by author.
purplefrog - hi CCaro,
Oliveria - Sorry my compter is werid
Cissy - Metsy, before we go on to Q&A can we get you to tell us a bit about NAVY SEAL DAD?
gerri - wb CC
Sara - wow, O. Is that a flock of questions?
Cynomin - hehehe...puter stuck on ? mode
CCaro - Hey Purple. Gerri and everyone.
Cynomin - hello CCaro
CCaro - Hi Cyn.
CCaro - ?
purplefrog - I buy by authore too...except for new authors for me....then it's more the blurp on back than the cover that makes me choose something
Metsy Hingle - This is what I called my "broken hero" story. He makes a choice years before that he can't be a SEAL (lots of backstory about his father) and leaves the gal he loves behind. Then he's injured and comes back. She feels she's second choice. That's why it was originally titled THE COMMANDER'S CHOICE.
Cynomin - ?
Cissy - he left her to become a SEAL?
Oliveria - Anybody from Texas? That is a joke Ann Richards is on Lary King Live
CCaro - Born and bred in Massachusetts. <G>
NikkiJ - I'm confused. I thought he was a SEAL
gerri - Hi gail
CCaro - Me, too. Doesn't he eventually become a Navy SEAL?
Cissy - Welcome gail4 to our chat with Metsy Hingle. Metsy's chatting tonight about her latest Silhouette Desire, NAVY SEAL DAD. We're operating on protocol, so if you have questions for Metsy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
CCaro - Howdy Gail.
Metsy Hingle - No. Can you tell I'm brain dead? He's already a SEAL, but he doesn't feel his career choice (being a SEAL is all he's every wanted to do). He chooses career over love because he feels the two don't mix. It isn't fair to the woman.
gail4 - Hi Caro
gail4 - Hid Gerri
Cissy - ah, thanks for clearing that up On to questions!
Cissy - Oliveria has the first question (CCaro, Cynomin in line)
NikkiJ - ah, okay.
Cissy - Hi Kiki welcome to our chat with Metsy Hingle. Metsy's chatting tonight about her latest Silhouette Desire, NAVY SEAL DAD. We're operating on protocol, so if you have questions for Metsy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Oliveria - Don't the authors have a say in the covers?
Kiki - HI.........HI Metsy!!!
Metsy Hingle - Hi Kiki! I don't know how to do those clever symbols.
Kiki - I'm not good at it either, Metsy.....
Cynomin - it is on the bottom called Chat Icons Metsy...I've been lookin around...
purplefrog - " "= waving hand
Metsy Hingle - Oliveria--The authors for series romance have very lengthy and detailed forms to fill out with scenes, synopsis, everything down to the way they comb their hair. But it's almost always a waste of time from what I can see. On my single titles I DO have input on both the cover and the back copy. In fact I wrote the back copy for my last MIRA--THE WAGER.
Cynomin - //waving hand
purplefrog - oops double // i mean then the word wave
Cynomin - I have that book just waiting for me to get it...lol...thanks purple
gail4 - ?
Cissy - CCaro has the next question (Cynomin in line)
Kiki - WB Metsy *grin*
Cissy - welcome back, Metsy!
CCaro - Hi Metsy! What made you write a book about a Navy SEAL? Also, did you do extensive research into their training? There was a documentary on tv that showed a group of young men trying to become SEALS. It was gruelling! So many quit.
Oliveria - ?
purplefrog - ?
Metsy Hingle - CCaro--I find the Navy SEAL thing fascinating. That's why I wanted to do the book. I did get two contacts for info and went to the website, got stuff there and saw some of the TV specials. I would like to have done something like Suzanne Brockmann did with a SEAL team, but Silhouette wanted a secret baby book and I had so many other commitments that I just went along with what they asked me to do.
CCaro - Hi Shalario.
Kiki - I'm STILL a sucker for those baby books, lol
Cissy - Cynomin has the next question (Gail4, Oliveria, purplefrog in line)
Cynomin - Is there a story leading up to this one? You mentioned about his Dad, and are there more stories after this? Like a Mini Series?
Cissy - Hi shalario Welcome to our chat with Metsy Hingle. Metsy's chatting tonight about her latest Silhouette Desire, NAVY SEAL DAD. We're operating on protocol, so if you have questions for Metsy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
CCaro - It is a cool idea. That documentary on tv was incredible. The trainers had grown men crying like babies.
Kiki - Suz is a wonderful, talented, realistic writer with that series.......but NO ONE writes those love scenes in category as good as you IMHO
Cynomin - Not me Kiki.......lol
Kiki - Cyn......are you a writer, too?? name not familiar
Metsy Hingle - Cynomin--No it's backstory in the book itself about his dad, how he's killed on a mission and leaves the hero and his family at a young age. No mini series. I've been doing a lot of continuity series for Desire and one single title continuity, plus I just signed another 3-book MIRA deal. So I really don't have the time.
Cynomin - No I'm not, passionate about it though...
Cissy - Gail4 has the next question (Oliveria, purplefrog in line)
Cynomin - that is GREAT about the 3 book MIRA DEAL...Congratulations
gail4 - Do you plan to continue writing for silhouette line and don't you have copyrights on the books? I don't buy for the covers any way just the authors
CCaro - Oh, so the hero has a lot of guilt over committing to a marriage, having children then being killed. Wow!
Metsy Hingle - Kiki--You're so good for my ego. But I'm a big fan of Suz's. What I'd really like to do for single title are the military suspense like my pal Merline Lovelace does.
CCaro - Have to bid everyone a good night.
Cynomin - good night CC
gerri - night CC
CCaro - Thanks Metsy! Goodnight everyone. God Bless.
gail4 - //bye
Kiki - No matter WHAT you do Metsy....it will have your own unique style....you know I've been reading you for years!
Oliveria - bye CCaro
Metsy Hingle - Gail--I am still writing for Silhouette Desire, but they've been offering me a lot of the continuity series. They can be tricky to write, but they're very popular and you have to be invited to write them. Right now, I'm committed to another continuity and I still have the MIRAs to write.
Cissy - Oliveria has the next question (purplefrog in line)
Oliveria - Do you write under your own name?
Kiki - When we meet characters that we don't want to lose touch with, the continuity series are just what the doctor ordered
gail4 - I think your books are great and will continue to read them no matter who publishes them'
Kiki - ?
Metsy Hingle - Sure do. I know it's a weird name and everyone thinks it's a nickname, but it isn't. It's my real name.
Metsy Hingle - Thanks, Gail. You too Kiki.
Cynomin - It's catchy and I like it! And with H as the first initial of your last name, your at eye level at the bookstore too lol
Cissy - and you're only called Mitsy every Other day, right?
Kiki - WOW......I just assumed Metsy was a nickname....
Cissy - I think it's a great name
Metsy Hingle - Thanks. When I was growing up I used to wish I had a name like Mary or Sue. I hated that it was so different and since I lost my parents at a young age, I never knew how I got such a name. Now that I'm writing, I'm happy with it.
Cissy - purplefrog has the next question (Kiki in line)
purplefrog - Mesty--Loved Navy Seal dad BTW...Where do you live? and please tell us something we would be surprised to know about you.
gail4 - sorry about all the mis types my nails are getting in the way tonight, time to cut them down
Kiki - Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh how sad *tear* I bet there is a wonderful story behind them naming you ...
Metsy Hingle - LOL on the Mitsy. Would you believe my brother-in-law of 25 years whose children I am the godmother of calls me Mitsy?
Metsy Hingle - I'm a New Orleans girl, born and bred. I live across the lake--suburbs sort of of New Orleans.
Cynomin - good question purple...anxiously awaiting response......
Cissy - lol, wouldn't doubt it, Metsy
Sara - short term memory problems?
Cynomin - ?
purplefrog - I though I remembered you were from LA...love that location in books
Cissy - Kiki has the next question (no one in line)
Metsy Hingle - Okay--surprises about me? Well, I'm very superstitious. Living in New Orleans and growing up Catholic with the nuns, I guess I should have expected it. But I'm terribly superstitious.
Cissy - Kiki has the next question (Cynomin in line)
purplefrog - Won't walk under ladders and such huh???
Kiki - I've always been superstitious myself....except for the black cat theory...I love them
Cissy - Hi Ms! welcome to our chat with Metsy Hingle. Metsy's chatting tonight about her latest Silhouette Desire, NAVY SEAL DAD. We're operating on protocol, so if you have questions for Metsy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Metsy Hingle - Another surprise about me--I never planned on being a writer. My big goal in life was to be an airline stewardess. Since I'd never travelled at all--you don't when you live in an orphanage and foster homes--I figured as a stewardess I'd see the world. Problem was back then height was a problem, I'm 5'2". The even bigger problem was when I took my first flight at 18 and discovered I get airsick.
Metsy Hingle - Nope, I avoid the ladders. Black cats don't bother me and I like the number 13.
Ms - This is Olveria did my question get answered i got knocked out
purplefrog - ?
Cissy - lol, poor Metsy! But see, now you know why you weren't meant to be a stewardess. You were meant for bigger things
Cissy - So what ARE you supersticious about?
Ms - ?
gail4 - ?
Cynomin - Have you read Julia Quinn's book "The Right to Write?" She talks about the fact you should write, just write, and style, genre will develop...what do you think about this, using your own experience???
Sara - Julia Quinn wrote that? I though it was Julia Cameron?
Metsy Hingle - The spilled salt thing. Also I feel guilty very easily and am sure anything that goes wrong is because I did something bad, was short-tempered with someone or heaven forbid if I miss church, I really know I'm in trouble.
Ms -
Cynomin - oh shoot, yes you are right Sara, I just started it...sorry people
Sara - but great question!
Cynomin - Lee recommended it to me...she's a sweetie..
Sara - do you do your three pages a day, Cynomin? very very beneficial!
Cynomin - I certainly do...
Kiki - Metsy.........how do you handle people who make snide remarks to/about your romance books/love scenes? Isn't your hubby a minister?t
Metsy Hingle - Haven't read that book. I'm a terribly structured person. I'm not a seat-of-the-pants writer. When I begin a story, I really have a feel for the characters. I write very long synopses and always start with the character sketches.
Cynomin - Resending.........Have you read Julia Cameron's book "The Right to Write?" She talks about the fact you should write, just write, and style, genre will develop...what do you think about this, using your own experience???
Cynomin - thanks Metsy )
Cissy - purplefrog has the next question ( Ms, Gail4 in line)
Metsy Hingle - I believe you should find what works for you as a writer. I do believe you have to write every day. When I'm working on a book, I don't miss a day--unless there's an emergency. That way I stay tuned into the storyline and the characters.
Ms - Hey you forgot me ?
Cynomin - thanks for the advice...I really appreciate it!!!!
purplefrog - How many books have you written and was The Wager your first single title?
Cissy - nope, Ms, you're in line!
Metsy Hingle - Kiki--My husband's not a minister. You might be thinking of my pal Emilie Richards. But on those occasions when someone comments on my work and the steamy love scenes, I point out that they are love scenes, not sex scenes. My characters are not promiscuous and I've not the least bit shy about them. As for my hubby--Jim is the only one who reads my manuscripts before I send them in.
Ms - I forgot i changed my name
Metsy Hingle - THE WAGER was my first single title. I'm writing my 17th book now and am under contract for 4 more.
Cynomin - 17th...does your website have the info for your backlist...........
Cissy - Hi mary! welcome to our chat with Metsy Hingle. Metsy's chatting tonight about her latest Silhouette Desire, NAVY SEAL DAD. We're operating on protocol, so if you have questions for Metsy, please type ? and I'll call on you in turn.
Kiki - Nah.......it's Carla Negger's whose hubby is a minister....sorry....
Metsy Hingle - Cynomin--It should be there. Cissy keeps it up to date for me.
purplefrog - another quickie? do you use Louisiana as a location in most of them?
Metsy Hingle - Cissy--Did I miss MS (Oliveria's) questions
Cissy - Yep, Cynomin - they're all there
Metsy Hingle - Cissy--Did I miss MS (Oliveria's) questions
Cynomin - thanks.......going to check and bookmark....right back....
Metsy Hingle - purplefrog--I've set quite a number of my stories in Louisiana. The publisher says the readers like that setting. But I've also got books set in Chicago, Texas, Arizona, Boston, etc.
purplefrog - she's next in line
Ms - Do you write under your own name was my name

gail4 - sorry
Sara - Ms has the next question (Gail4 in line)
gail4 - my computer is doing funny things
Metsy Hingle - Ms--Metsy Hingle is my real name. It's a weird name, but it's my own. I lost my parents at a young age so I don't know they story of how I got that name. After wishing it was Mary or Sue for years, I'm finally happy with it since I'm writing.
Sara - no problem, Gail.
Sara - Gail4 has the next question (no one in line)

Ms - How old were you when you lost your parents
purplefrog - I will be 41 Kiki, and you?
gail4 - I have been reading Sandra Brown since she published as Rachel Ryan
Metsy Hingle - What I like most about writing is that I get to write those happy endings that I love. I love coming up with the characters, putting them through their paces. What I like least is probably the business side of it. The art facts sheets, line edits, galleys.
Cynomin - That book was awesome Kiki
Kiki - and Erin St. Clare
