CHRISTMAS-GONE-WILD052014_200Happy Holidays!  Whether you are celebrating Christmas, Hanukah, or Kwanza, I hope yours is blessed with the experiences you share with your family and friends.

Every year I promise myself that I’m going to work less during the holiday and spend more time with my family, yet I find myself working right up to the day.  And preparing the Christmas feast is like a marathon.  I’m so exhausted after Christmas dinner that I can only veg.

Now, there are those who are excellent time managers, purchase their gifts months in advance and complete their projects early the christmas gifenough that the holidays are a breeze.  I’m not one of them.  There’s always that “one last gift” I forgot.

I beat myself up about it each year, because while my friends are relaxing, I’m still going at it.  This time I remembered two things.  Everyone is different.  Yes, there are those, like my friend, who is prepared because she schedules well and gets it done early.  Even still, she’s often running late, like me, on some projects.  While even when I get an early start, which I often do, in the end, I’m still looking for that “one last gift” the day before Christmas.  Second, I think about the purpose of the holiday and if I don’t get the perfect gift, I have my family and they are priceless.  (Of course one of my New Year’s resolutions is to do everything on time.)

a new year a new beginningBut after Christmas dinner, when someone else is doing the dishes, I finally relax, think about the purpose of the holiday, enjoy my family and the next week I read my favorite holiday books.

Whatever your personality type, I wish you a wonderful and blessed holiday season.

What personality type are you?  Are you a good scheduler who gets it all done ahead of time or are you one of the last minute people?  What can you do to make the Holiday season easier and more enjoyable?
