BREAKING OH SO GOOD

bbDon’t worry, no spoiler alert is needed for this post.

I’m not going to give specifics, but I just need to go on record as saying that the final episode of Breaking Bad was the most satisfying end to a series it’s ever been my pleasure to experience.

Every loose thread ended up neatly and perfectly tied at the end. How wonderful! What a lovely gift to this show’s many devoted fans.

And how sad that the same can so seldom be said for popular television programs that have reached their end. Go ahead, I dare you, think back to all the ballyhooed series finales of the past that just left you cold after you powered off your set.

A man I spoke with today said he thinks there may be a hole in his heart where Breaking Bad used to live on Sunday nights. He still isn’t sure what’s going to take its place.

I bow to Vince Gilligan, writer, director, producer and creator of Breaking Bad and his writing crew for respecting this show and its characters enough to spend the time and effort to think through all the possible permutations of this constantly evolving story and coming up with their usual brilliant outcome.

My friends often tease me about being the ultimate second guesser when it comes to TV shows and movies. Lord knows I spent plenty of time thinking about ways this series could end.  I can’t lie, absolutely nothing I came up with was even close to the way Gilligan and crew finessed this ending.

SALUTE!!

Sure, I hate to see BB go to that big DVD collection in the sky. But there’s peace in knowing the entire story is just a disc player away, complete with commentary and never-before-seen scenes.

As lead character Walter White said at the beginning of the series “Chemistry is the study of change.” And, as many others have noted before me, Breaking Bad was the study of Walter White’s many changes.

Now he and his show have gone through the biggest change of all . . .

bbendTHE END.

HOW ABOUT YOU, ARE YOU A FAN OF BREAKING BAD? HAVE YOU SEEN THE FINAL EPISODE YET? IF SO, WHAT’D YOU THINK? HOW DO YOU THINK IT COMPARES TO THE FINAL EPISODE OF OTHER SHOWS YOU’VE LIKED? A FREE COPY OF MY DEBUT NOVEL, MRS. GOODFELLER, WILL BE RANDOMLY AWARDED TO ONE PERSON WHO LEAVES A COMMENT BELOW BEFORE THE NEXT WRITERSPACE BLOG IS POSTED.

The last episode of Breaking Bad is one of the best finales I’ve ever seen. I’m like you; I can usually figure out what’s going to happen in any given show I’m watching, but never Breaking Bad. I’ve never been as continually surprised by any television show as by Breaking Bad. I wasn’t able to guess anything that happened in the finale. I’d love to talk about spoilery stuff like Walt’s final transformation but I’ll hold off. Maybe you can do a big spoilery analysis of the finale for another blog! 🙂
